Hard spots on brake pads Improper "break-in" of new brake pads can cause the brake disc material to flake off. These fragments can become embedded in the brake pads and cause hard spots.
Additionally, impurities stuck between the discs can also cause hard spots. This phenomenon does not affect brake performance and does not need to be repaired.
In order to determine if the brake pads are still serviceable, the depth of the groove should be carefully measured. If the depth of the groove is at or beyond the minimum limit of brake pad thickness, the disc should be replaced.
Brake pads are made of a synthetic material that does not contain iron. This will affect the color of the brake disc surface.
